“Results of longitudinal studies suggest that depression, general emotional stress and anxiety, sleeping problems, anger and hostility are associated with an increased risk for the development of Type 2 Diabetes”, commented a report back in 2010 by the European Depression in Diabetes Research Consortium.
It states on the National Institute of Diabetes website that most people who are suffering from insulin resistance don’t realise that they have the condition until they eventually develop Type 2 Diabetes.
There are currently around 3.9 million people in the UK living with Diabetes and 90% of these have ‘Type 2’ Diabetes. Although the number of people suffering from Diabetes is predicted to grow to 5 million by 2025, there is also a growing awareness that the treatment and reversal of many chronic conditions, such as Diabetes, may not lie in the field of prescriptive medicine, but in the hands of our own lifestyle and dietary choices.
Currently around 1 in 16 people in the UK suffer from diabetes with this ratio equating to a total of around 3.9 million people; these figures alone provide cause for concern.
