  1. I just watched a podcast on B12 injections and you mentioned that folate should be taking a little later after B12 started. I am a member of the B12 Society wake up group in the UK and I would like to know what your protocol exactly how much folate or folinic acid ..in my case since I’m sensitive, that you need to take daily when injecting 1000 CG every other day. I have started out with average folate level.-12-
Dr. Klein and my functional medicine doctor in Dallas Texas recommends 800 MCG but The Group insists on 5000 which much more than the 800 makes me feel not so well. They say it’s reversing out symptoms The Group does but I’ve been told not to take a whole lot more than that. My main symptom is cognition and brain fog that I have struggle with the last Five years since menopause and I have genetics MTHFR and slow COMT probably been deficient for quite a while and didn’t even know it, but the symptoms are confusing because it looks like menopause symptoms as well. What would you recommend as far as folenic acid how much to take every day when injecting Thank you.

    1. Thank you for your query. The balance of B12 and folate can be quite complex and is very much specific to each individual. So I would be unable to make specific recommendations for dosages for you. However, I tend to find that very high does of folate such as 5000ug are not always necessary and can trigger symptoms in people, especially those who are sensitive. An oral dose of 400-800ug of methylfolate (or folinic acid if appropriate/required) is what we would recommend alongside B12 injections. For specific doses with regards to folinic acid injections it would be important to seek advice from your functional medicine practitioner, who knows your case as this is not an area of our expertise.
